"THE PIPES OF PEACE"

I just spotted this link on the internet and would like to thank Ian Burrows for his lovely words about our project “Looking back to go Forward” in the Community Forum a few years back. This was a peace initiative and was a project used to bring our communities together whilst nationalist and loyalist was the target audience it was open to all. We asked Ian and Tiarnan to demonstrate the use of both these instruments and explain their heritage. Ian was struck by the words “The Pipes of Peace” which I coined in an earlier demonstration we undertook with Tiarnán O Dunnchainn and Leslie Soden demonstrating the similarities between the Bagpipes and the Uileann pipes and highlighting that when you brought them back to the beginning that they used extremely similar reeds hence they started out the same not unlike ourselves, we start out the same and it is how we are brought up that determines how we turn out to a certain extent , this we thought was a nice parallel to the project we were doing. Ian loved the idea and now spearheads a new group called “The Pipes of Peace Project” , how nice is that , our project begets another … hope it is still playing away Ian … again thanks for the kind words.
